State Treasurer Thinks Budget Deficit Will Get Worse
While Gov. Pat Quinn and Comptroller Dan Hynes work to find ways of covering a growing state deficit, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias believes the state may have more than the projected $9 billion debt. He says the $9 billion figure is based on revenue and expenditures remaining the same. He believes revenue into the state coffers will fall and expenditures will rise.

Giannoulias says Illinois and its residents have a big job ahead of them. He says he has been in contact with both Hynes and Quinn on the matter.

Giannoulias says he is hopeful that the House and Senate in Washington can come to an agreement on the federal stimulus plan. He says lawmakers must realize that many states are in dire need of federal funds.
