Saturday Marks Anniversary of NIU Tragedy
It has been almost a year since five students were gunned down in a college classroom in DeKalb. The Northern Illinois University massacre anniversary Saturday brings thoughts on many subjects -- from remembering the victims to doing more to keep campuses safe to getting state money for buildings to simply trying to be nice to people.

State Rep. Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley) led a moment of silence on the floor of the Illinois House of Representatives for the five people who died -- adding that the assassin "didn't care that he was in a gun-free zone."

Pritchard says Cole Hall hasn't reopened since the shootings, putting students in temporary classrooms and magnifying the lack of attention the state has given to higher education construction.

Pritchard says NIU is trying to move from a "random act of violence" to "random acts of kindness" -- which, in DeKalb, are being called "Husky acts of kindness."
