Obama Speaks in Springfield
President Barack Obama was welcomed in Springfield Thursday night with a standing ovation and much applause. Obama was the keynote speaker at the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration banquet.

About 900 people attended the banquet, with 300 more in another room watching on big-screen televisions. Obama made light of his newest problem: his nominee for commerce secretary, Senator Judd Gregg, has withdrawn his nomination. Obama said maybe at one point, President Lincoln waited for an invitation to be someone's commerce secretary.

Obama also pushed his economic stimulus package, saying America should remember the spirit of Lincoln, and allow government to intervene in an economy that cannot be fixed by the marketplace.
