FIRST ON WGIL: Knox County Health Department Administrator Resigns -- Takes Post in Peoria
POSTED 4:03pm, UPDATED 4:33pm 2/17/09 Knox County's first ever Public Health Administrator is leaving the local department to take the same position for the Peoria City/County Health Department on May 4th.

Greg Chance joined the Knox County Health Department in April of 1993 after being a Director of Environmental Health for the LaSalle County Health Department. As the first administrator for the Knox County Health Department, Chance has worked with with board of health members, elected officials, community residents, and department personnel to establish a health department that, he says, provides a broad array of programs without creating a burden on local taxpayers.

Chance tells WGIL the time is just right for his departure. "I was offered a position with the Peoria City/County Health Department," Chance said. "I felt it was an appropriate time to make a change in my professional career, and I'm excited about the opportunities that the new position brings forth."

Knox County Board of Health President Jeanne Harland, in a statement, commended Chance for his work and commitment to local health programs. The Knox County Board of Health has created a search committee to manage the effort to fill the vacant Public Health Administrator position which Chance thinks could be filled by mid-April. Chance's last day is May 4.
