Madigan Wants Information to be Accessible
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says now is a perfect time to make information from the state more accessible, even though it should have been easy to get all along.

The state's Freedom of Information Act sets up parameters by which residents can ask for information that's supposed to be made public. If someone asks for that information, it's supposed to be provided, but Madigan says recently that has not been the case. She gave examples of several cases in which a "FOIA" case has been taken to court.

That's why Madigan wants to put some teeth into the law so the government can be held more accountable. She wants to implement fines that from $100 to $1,000, depending on the size of the government. She doesn't have a draft for the plan yet, but hopes to have one within a couple of weeks.
