SEIU Wants State Money
Nearly 700 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members and their families flooded the State Capitol building in Springfield Thursday as they lobbied lawmakers to support their cause. They're pushing bills currently before lawmakers that would ensure funding for health insurance for nursing home employees.

As it stands now, nearly 8,000 of those union members will lose their health insurance on May 1 unless a bill is passed that will guarantee funding for continued insurance.

SEIU Healthcare Illinois and Indiana President Keith Kelleher knows the state is in a budget crisis, and that's why he says lawmakers should raise taxes. He says both Republicans and Democrats are beginning to support the idea, but he wants them to do it responsibly.

Kelleher stresses that with the state the economy is in, it doesn’t make sense to cut benefits for people "who really need it."
