Risinger Calls for Moving Primary---Again
State lawmakers have another date to consider and they ponder whether to move the Illinois primary again.

State Senator Dale Risinger (R-Peoria) has proposed a bill to move the primary to the first Tuesday of June. The primary, traditionally in March of even-numbered years, was moved to February last year in hopes of helping Barack Obama.

While Governor Pat Quinn wants the primary moved as far forward as September, Risinger says that would be too close to the general election. He says he's flexible about moving it to July or August. He says campaigns are too long and too expensive, and that people are tired of it.

Risinger says state representatives and senators on a two-year election cycle don't like it either because they spend more time campaigning and raising money than doing their jobs.
