Illinois' Duckworth Tapped for Deputy VA Post
President Obama has nominated Illinois Veterans Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth to become an assistant secretary of the Veterans Administration. In a statement, Duckworth says she has "had the distinct pleasure and honor of serving Illinois' veterans and their families." Duckworth must still be confirmed in order for her to take the position.

Illinois American Legion Department Adjutant Terry Woodburn says Duckworth will be missed, as he has worked with her for several years. But he says Obama made a good nomination because Duckworth has a good sense of what today's veterans need. He says she’ll be able to get things done if she's allowed to do what she's supposed to do, and doesn't get sucked into what he calls "the bureaucracy of D.C." Woodburn says Duckworth is "scrappy" and "she'll keep her focus."

VFW Illinois State Commander Vince Long has known Duckworth only for about a year, but like Woodburn, thinks the president made a good nomination.
