Hare, Schock React to President Obama's Speech
The area's two local Congressman say they both liked the tone of President Barack Obama's first address to a joint session of Congress, but differ somewhat on the message.

17th District Congressman Phil Hare says he thought Obama's address, especially the parts relating to fixing the economy and getting people back to work.

Hare tells WGIL he believes Obama was honest with Congress and America about how much of a struggle the recession is, and what it will take to fix it. "He said it's not going to be easy, and that (Obama knows) there will be disagreements along the way," Hare said. "I thought the tone was very, very good. It wasn't somber. He's said from the beginning 'I don't have to tell you what shape this country's in.'"

18th District Congressman Aaron Schock, who released a statement via his webpage on "YouTube", says there's something the President didn't say but should have. "First, we have to recognize where our government has made mistakes," Schock said. "In the past two years, Washington has spent over $9 trillion to rescue our economy. Clearly this has not worked."

Hare disagrees, and says the Republican party continues to pick out problems but not find any solutions. He says Schock "needs a history lesson."
