Governor Wants to Re-Open Parks; No Word on Historic Sites
Gov. Pat Quinn is hinting that state parks closed by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich are about to re-open. Quinn says he's planning a "big announcement" at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Department of Natural Resources.

Blagojevich shut seven state parks Dec. 1. He originally planned to close 13 parks and 11 historic sites to save $1.4 billion. Spokesmen at the agency didn’t immediately know how much money was to be saved by closing just the seven parks. There's no word on whether the 12 historic sites that Blagojevich closed will soon re-open.

Quinn always opposed the closing of the parks and historic sites, saying that should be the last thing government should do in tough times when people rely on parks for vacations. He also said the local communities with the closed parks would suffer financially from the loss of visitors.

The parks that are closed are:

* Castle Rock State Park, Oregon
* Lowden State Park, Oregon
* Illini State Park, Marseilles
* Hidden Springs State Forrest, Strasburg
* Moraine View State Park, Leroy
* Weldon Springs State Park, Clinton
* Wolf Creek State Park, Windsor
