|Knox County Board Approves Power Bill Savings Measure
|With one energy provider looking to possibly increase their rates, the Knox County Board is looking to save some money by switching to another energy provider. The Knox County Board last night voted unanimously to a approve a 24 month contract through Integrys to provide energy at all Knox County facilities.
The board heard from Dave Rupert, a Preventative Maintenance Consultant from Mechanical Service, Inc., who explained to them purchasing their electricity is like a commodity market. The price today is different than the price tomorrow. He broke down the energy usage at Knox County facilities and explained not all of them will use the same amount of energy each month.
Summer months, depending on the temperatures, could use up a lot of energy in hot weather versus a cooler summer. Rupert told the board locking in the price of energy rates from Integrys will have savings over that time period.
"We're looking at saving an additional eight to nine-thousand dollars a year, from last week, for a one-year term, and almost $20,000 for a two-year term, over the saving that we originally projected for Knox County," Rupert said.
Rupert says they are a green company and encourage the county to use less energy but what they pay for the energy is where they will save money. The group will lock into an electricity price this morning and will receive the new bills from Integrys possibly by April.
If they are dissatisfied with the service, the board can eventually sell the estimated usage back to the company at a cost of whatever the market value is at that time.
