Longtime Congressional Employee, Joyce Bean, Retires Today
A Knox County woman who has worked for two Congressmen, making her the first point of contact for many when they've had an issue, is calling it a career.

Joyce Bean has worked in the 17th Congressional District's Galesburg office for 26 years. Her last day on the job is today (Friday). She's worked for both Congressman Phil Hare, and his predecessor, Lane Evans.

Hare spoke about Bean during an appearance last week in Galesburg.

"She's one of the most decent people I know," Hare said. "She came out of the labor movement like I did, and her heart is still there, and we will miss her. But, I'm jealous because she's going to be travelling, and the only travel I'm doing is from Washington back and forth. But Joyce, I appreciate everything you have done."

Hare also praised Bean Wednesday on the floor of the U.S. House, saying Bean has given back to the community for a long time, either as a member of the Communication Workers of America, United Way of Knox County, or through the district office.

Hare joked last week that he has seniority over Bean, only because he worked for Evans one day longer than Bean did.
