Gilson Man Faces Federal Drug Charges
A rural Knox County resident is now facing federal drug charges after allegedly attempting to buy and sell drugs throughout Central Illinois.

Documents filed in U-S District Court in Peoria indicate 39-year old Casey Kidwell was charged Monday with Attempt to Possess More than 500 Grams of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. An affidavit filed in support of an arrest warrant for Kidwell indicates the Gilson resident attempted to purchase powdered cocaine in the parking lot of an East Peoria hotel on Friday.

The affidavit filed by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Paul Larsen says Kidwell asked a confidential source a number of questions about alleged marijuana and cocaine, and was apparently willing to purchase $25,000 worth of powdered cocaine.

A search warrant of Kidwell's Gilson home following his arrest allegedly turned up small amounts of suspected marijuana and cocaine, along with a digital scale and nearly $40,000 in cash.

Kidwell, Larsen says, has been investigated in the past for alleged drug activity in Knox and Warren Counties, and that investigators have received tips to that end from at least ten people from 2000 through January of this year.

Kidwell is scheduled to appear back in federal court Thursday afternoon for a bond hearing. He has been appointed a public defender.
