Making Valentine's Day Special For Our Soldiers
Illinois' new Governor wants Valentine's Day to be just as special for troops overseas, as it is for people within the state. Governor Pat Quinn is urging schoolchildren and adults to make sure Illinois' wounded veterans and troops receive plenty of handmade valentines.

Quinn says he hopes everyone in Illinois will find time to make valentines so that our Veterans and soldiers who can't celebrate the holiday with their families at home know that they are in our hearts on Valentine's Day and everyday.

Deb Rickert, president of Operation Support Our Troops-Illinois says the handmade valentines will be shipped overseas in time for troops to open them on February 14th.

"We hava a lot of National Guard and reservists who are deployed so they will go to Illinois, but not just Illinois."

Rickert says there is usually an outpouring of support for the project and that cards sometimes come in from across the country.

To ensure timely delivery, Operation Support our Troops-Illinois says they are asking that all valentines be dropped off or mailed to their office by Saturday.

To mail your Valentine's Day Cards or letters:
