Representatives Ready For Work
Two local lawmakers say they're optimistic they'll be able to get a lot done in Springfield this year now that the impeachment trial is over, compared to the years past, where lawmakers and the Governor seemingly squabbled over everything.

State Representatives Don Moffitt and Rich Myers say they both see plenty of opportunity for bi-partisanship now that Rod Blagojevich has "Ex-Governor" in his title.

Myers, a Macomb Republican, says he sees much more room for compromise in this General Assembly compared to the last one.

"I think there will be more cooperation between the House and the Senate especially with the new leadership in the Senate. I think there will be a different tone coming out of that chamber certainly."

Moffitt, meanwhile, who has used a lot of time and energy helping local veterans over the last several years, says he wants to craft legislation this year continuing that -- especially Vietnam veterans.

Moffit says, "I hope we can pass so legislation to allow them to get service credit for their military service in terms of their retirements."

Moffitt says many of those vets are reaching the age where they would begin looking at retirement. Moffitt says that's just one of a number of issues that he hopes to be able to address during the new session.

The House returned to Springfield for their regular session Wednesday.
