Moffit Looking to Help Vets and 'Green' People
A local lawmaker says yes, there are pressing issues that have to be dealt with in the legislature now that the impeachment proceedings are behind them, but he hopes the new legislative year will also give him a chance to continue to expand on areas that he's worked on in past sessions.

74th District State Representative Don Moffitt says yes, the budget and state finances will be front and center, but he wants to work on ways to further expand the help state gives veterans in a couple of different areas, and also possibly give people who install geo-thermal heating and cooling services in their homes tax credits.

But the Gilson Republican says he's tried to help local emergency services in the last several years, and hopes he can do more now.

"I'm always looking for ways to increase the revenue for our emergency services so were looking at legislation that would create a revenue stream to bring more money back to our local emergency services and emergency providers being fire, police, and EMS."

Moffitt says there are no guarantees he'll be successful in trying to get anything passed that he's working on, especially given continued uncertainty in the budget, but believes he'll give it a shot anyway.

Moffitt and other lawmakers feel there will be more room for compromise and working together, now that Pat Quinn holds the state's top elected position.
