A Pretty Sweet Weekend in Galesburg
A celebration perfect for Valentine's Day weekend is once again happening in downtown Galesburg, and has been happening for almost a quarter century now.

The Galesburg Historical Society is hosting its 24th annual Chocolate Fest Saturday and Sunday from 11 a-m to 3 p-m each day on the 3rd floor of the Galesburg Antiques Mall at Main and Seminary Streets.

Historical Society Board member Marj Edlen tells W-G-I-L the society has no problem getting enough chocolate for everyone's palates.

"The chocolate is all donated from area private citizens and the public is fantastic at responding to our call for chocolate," Edlen said. "Some is donated by commercial donors, but the majority of it does come from the private individual - including me, who spends three or four days before it cooking."

Edlen says a chocolate art contest will be a part of the festival, and entries are still being sought for the contest that visitors can help judge. That's in addition to live entertainment and a chocolate fountain which is said to have new dipping choices this year.

She says if you do plan on going and partaking in the chocolate, be prepared to wait, since there are always long lines for all the cocoa-based goodness.

Proceeds from admission benefit the Historical Society.
