Group Recognizes National Entrepreneurship Week
FIRST REPORTED 12:00pm 2/16/10 A group of local economic development entities are celebrating a year of providing support and opportunities for current and existing business owners in a four-county area.

The Western Illinois Entrepreneurial Support Network held a news conference Tuesday during National Entrepreneurship Week to highlight some of the accomplishments made since they officially formed one year ago.

Representing one of those, Galesburg Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez says the ESN's vision is simple but also very clear.

"(The goal is) having an entrepreneurial spirit-filled community. And we do that," Suarez said. "We have individuals, organizations, and community-wide sprit of entrepreneurship. When we do, I think you'll see that...if you want to quantify...the start-up of businesses, the expansion of businesses, individuals taking risks."

The ESN says among the things they want to do this year, is hold a contest among high school students to see who can create the best business plan, with cash awards being given during Small Business Week in May.

The group is a collaboration of economic development and other entities from Knox, Warren, Henderson, and Mercer Counties.
