Hare Campaigns for Re-Election in Galesburg
The Galesburg native representing the vast majority of this area in Congress didn't mince too many words as he officially kicked off his campaign for re-election.

Rock Island Democrat Phil Hare campaigned in Galesburg Tuesday as part of what he called a two-day kickoff campaign. He spoke to a group of mostly supporters at the Galesburg Steelworkers Union hall near Cooke School.

Hare called his opponent, Quad Cities pizzeria owner Bobby Schilling "out of sync" with issues important to people in the 17th Congressional District want, and wasn't completely complimentary of his own party either, especially on efforts to pass health care reform.

"It's our party's fault...is a great that that is pushing this thing," Hare said. "We're...too busy spinning it, instead of just going to the American people and saying 'this is what we're trying to do,' and let them decide."

Hare says outside of health care reform finally getting passed, some action on which could take place in Congress next week, he believes jobs and job creation is the top priority.

He's calling for the use of $30 billion in bailout money to help keep municipalities, for instance, from having to lay off public safety-related workers.
