Main Highway in Abingdon to Get Worked On
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 2/17/10 The motoring public in Abingdon should be happy about some good news the city's received.

The city council learned Tuesday night that the state is planning to improve a stretch of road that's heavily traveled, and it won't cost the city a dime.

Abingdon Mayor Roger Stegall says the work basically covers the north to south end the city's main thoroughfare.

"The Illinois Department of Transportation is proposing to improve approximately 5.7 miles of Illinois 41 from Hunter Street in Abingdon, to Illinois 116," Stegall said.

Stegall says the project includes patching, milling and resurfacing the existing pavement. The city is required to basically continue maintaining the streets it takes care of now as part of the agreement with IDOT. Stegall told the city council that the project is tentatively scheduled to be let on March 5th. Aldermen approved the agreement with IDOT.
