"Down Ticket" Races Either Clear or Close
The down-ballot races in Illinois were either easily decided or too close to call.

In the Democratic primary for state treasurer, Robyn Kelly easily defeated Justin Oberman with 58 percent of the vote.

In the Republican primary for comptroller, former state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka also picked up an easy win, with 59 percent of the vote. William Kelly (22 percent) and Orland Park Ald. Jim Dodge (19 percent) were her opponents.

The Democratic race for comptroller may not be over. State Rep. David E. Miller (D-Lynwood) felt confident he would pull out a victory, with a 3,000-vote lead on Raja Krishnamoorthi. Krishnamoorthi, however, says he will wait to see each voted counted and it was premature to declare a winner.

In the crowded races for lieutenant governor, businessman Scott Lee Cohen won the Democratic nomination with 26 percent of the vote. State Rep. Art Turner (D-Chicago) was a close behind with 24 percent. Four other candidates were further behind.

Businessman Jason Plummer of Edwardsville grabbed the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, topping State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) by 5,000 votes. Four other candidates, including Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole, finished well behind.
