Donors Coming Through for Orpheum
The president of Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre says something she hoped would happen, happened.

Kate Francis told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday so far, the Galesburg Downtown Council has sent its check of $30,000 to the theatre, and that the Galesburg Community Foundation has indicates its $50,000 will still be given, despite the federal Save America's Treasures Grant was unsuccessful.

Francis tells WGIL as far as she knows, two other local entities are still good for their contributions, too.

"The city and the county are standing by their pledges at this time," Francis said. "We obviously will be coming back to them once we have some more solid information from the 'performance contract' request for proposals that have been sent out this week."

Francis is referring to the theatre's efforts to partner with a firm that will come up with an energy efficiency plan for the Orpheum even as efforts to continue to figure out how to replace what she's called outdated heating and air conditioning systems.

Francis also told the CCA Board Wednesday that she expects to make a formal announcement regarding the entire 2010 Red Carpet Series at the beginning of March, past the already-announced first show featuring Spencer's Theatre of Illusion on April 11th.

She says she's still trying to finalize some sponsorships of the shows, but so far, she's already received $5,000 more than she originally projected in that regard.
