TSA Conducts Exercise on "Illinois Zephyr" Route
Riders on an Amtrak route Friday no doubt noticed a very heavy police presence.

Officials with the City of Galesburg say the U.S. Transportation Security Administration conducted what's described as a Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response exercise Friday morning on the Illinois Zephyr between Galesburg and Macomb.

Officials say the purpose of the exercise was to promote confidence in and protect the nation's transportation systems.

Among the officers participating in the exercise were those from Galesburg, Knox County, Macomb, McDonough County, and Amtrak - along with the FBI, state police and TSA investigators.

Authorities say having an increased presence of officers in the train stations and on the train itself sends a clear message that criminal activity within the transportation industry won't be tolerated. Local officers received experience in managing a threat to transportation in the event it occurs.
