Gas Prices Down in February
February's gas prices are a mixed bag, they're down from last month but quite a bit more than last year at this time.

The AAA Chicago Motor Club's most recent Fuel Gauge Report indicates the price for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped 15 cents between January and February. It forecasts an average cost statewide of $2.69 a gallon.

Triple-A spokeswoman Beth Mosher says she expects gas prices to go up when Spring rolls around.

"It's tough to say where this is going to go," Moshier said. "We know, as we get into the late spring, that we typically see prices rise back up. So, hopefully, consumers will get a little bit of a respite before that rise in the late spring."

Mosher says oil prices have dropped considerably, and that's contributed to the lower gas prices at the pump in the past month.

Gas prices in Galesburg are in line with the statewide average. Mosher says the cheapest prices in the state can be found in Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, Springfield and the Rockford area.
