Predicted Snow Arrives, But Worst is Over
CHICAGO (AP) -- A winter storm made its way across the northern tier of Illinois and dumped a lot of snow, but it wasn't as bad as some forecasts predicted.

The heavy snow started falling Sunday morning and continued into Sunday night, mostly affecting areas in the north central and northwestern portions of Illinois.

The storm tailed off Sunday night and left the area. Reports from the National Weather Service that rely on information from weather spotters and other sources indicate snow amounts varied in the Galesburg area. It appears the most snow cover occurred in Abingdon, where 6.2 inches had been received as of 8:50 Sunday night. The reports shows Altona had 4.2 inches before 9 p-m and parts of Stark County had also received four or more inches. The weather service report indicates snowfall totals as of last night generally ranged from 2 inches to more than 6 inches.

The National Weather Service last night canceled the Winter Storm Warning that was in effect. The forecast calls for a chance of flurries through Wednesday and wind gusts today of up to 25 miles per hour.
