Hints About Governor's Proposed Budget
When Gov. Pat Quinn unveils his new budget Web site Wednesday, you'll see some of the basic numbers that he will use in his budget address. But a few of those numbers are being released to state lawmakers.

The governor's budget Web site will outline this year's income and spending, and estimate how much money the state will pull in next fiscal year. David Vaught, director of the governor's office of management and budget, is telling lawmakers that Illinois will likely bring in $16.5 billion, which is about $600 million more than this year. That's compared to state budgets that until recently totaled about $28 billion. While he calls such an uptick a "bright spot," he acknowledges that the state won't see any more federal stimulus money. Vaught further says he expects to finish this year with a $6 billion deficit, with the financial picture degrading to a $13 billion shortfall.

Vaught says the budget will include a tax hike, cuts, a plea for more federal money, and more borrowing. The Web site is supposed to go live at noon Wednesday. The budget website is available by CLICKING HERE.
