Monmouth Men Facing Methamphetamine Charges
The alleged discovery of a methamphetamine lab by authorities in Warren County earlier this week is resulting in several felony charges against two Monmouth men.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards says 34-year old Matthew Johnson and 33-year old Gary Burkett Junior were arrested Tuesday morning in Monmouth. Police reportedly discovered the meth lab in a residence on West Fourth Avenue after an investigation revealed anhydrous ammonia had been taken from a fertilizer plant on the southwest side of the city.

Burkett and Johnson are both charged with aggravated participation in meth production, possession of meth precursors and meth manufacturing materials and possession of anhydrous ammonia. Authorities say Burkett faces an additional charge of controlled substance possession.

The participating law enforcement agencies included the Warren County Sheriff's Department, Monmouth police and the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team.

Both Burkett and Johnson were taken to the Warren County Jail to be held pending court appearances.
