Quinn: Taking Away Seniors' Free Rides Won't Pass
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn says he doesn't think a move to rescind free transit rides for senior citizens will pass.

Transit agencies have been clamoring for lawmakers to scale back the program to help them save money.

The Illinois House this week passed a measure to scale back the program to make it an income- based benefit. Under that plan, free rides would continue for people 65 and older whose annual income is under about $27,600 -- or $36,600 for a two-person household.

Quinn on Friday wouldn't say if he would sign the measure to limit the benefit. He says he doesn't think that will pass the Illinois Senate.
