Can Budget Issues Be Solved Now that Primary is Over?
Now that the primary races are over, the state can finally get back to the peoples business.

And now that Comptroller Dan Hynes has affirmed the Democratic nomination for governor belongs to Quinn, he has pledged to help the governor get the state past its financial troubles.

"We talked about working together over the next several months on the budget and throughout the campaign," Hynes said. "And I will be working with him and for him to the best of my abilities."

Quinn says a complete plan to get the state out of debt will be announced during his budget address which could take place in late February or March.

While he won't give out many details and won't say if the plan will involve short term borrowing, Quinn is still pushing for an income tax increase. He's touting the plan as "tax reform" and says Illinoisans should be taxed on their ability to pay. He says his plan includes tax cuts for many.

"Giving tax cuts to modest income people at this time with a tough economy will help our economy because folks when they get tax relief will use that money to buy goods and services for their family and get consumer demand going in the economy," Quinn said.
