Galesburg School District Ready to Drop CSC's EduNet
An internet network established by Carl Sandburg College will see one of its first customers back out, if the Galesburg School Board approves doing so Monday night.

The District-205 Board will consider not renewing its contract with CSC's "EduNet" network and instead sign a five-year agreement with local phone company CenturyLink for its services.

CSC started EduNet over five years ago as a way to not only provide wireless internet access to schools in its 10-county district, but also to provide distance learning opportunities and dual credit courses.

Problem is, District-205 claims the EduNet service is, in their words, "maxed out" and they can't provide any of those things, and also affects the district's computer network in other ways.

The District was paying $562 a month, and officials say the new deal will provide more bandwidth at nearly double the price. But they also say the trade-off is a much more secure connection.

The Galesburg school board will also talk about the already-reported proposed budget ides for the next fiscal year, but likely take no action, when it meets at 7:00 at Lincoln School.
