Deadline Near for Switch Back to Original Medicare
CHICAGO (AP) -- Consumers who aren't happy with their private Medicare Advantage plans have until Monday to disenroll and sign up for original Medicare.

After Monday's deadline, most people with Medicare will be unable to make another change to their health coverage until the fall open enrollment period, which begins Oct. 15.

The Medicare Rights Center says consumers who drop their private plans may need to join a stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plan in order to maintain drug coverage.

The number to call to disenroll from a private plan and enroll in a stand-alone prescription if necessary is 1-800-MEDICARE.

Seniors seeking more information can contact the Illinois State Health Insurance Assistance Program at 1-800-548-9034.
