Lincoln Award Granted to Late TV Moderator Russert
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois' top officials joined national media figures at a downtown hotel ballroom Thursday night to award the Lincoln Leadership Prize to the late television journalist and ``Meet the Press'' moderator Tim Russert.

The prize is awarded each year by the Springfield-based Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation. Previous winners include retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Astronaut James Lovell.

Among those paying tribute to Russert, who died in 2008, were his former colleague and NBC anchor Tom Brokaw. He and others at Chicago's Four Seasons Hotel remembered Russert for his objective, penetrating journalism.

Russert's wife, journalist Maureen Orth, spoke of what Lincoln and Russert had in common, including humble beginnings, an intense love of the country, a fondness for politics and people and ''a lack of sartorial finesse."
