U of Ill. to Host Exhibit on Early Women Attorneys
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- An exhibit featuring the efforts and struggles of pioneering women attorneys in Illinois will open at the University of Illinois College of Law.

An opening ceremony will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Peer and Sarah Pedersen Pavilion at the college of law in Champaign.

The exhibit will explore the histories of such women as Myra Bradwell, whose efforts to gain admission to the Illinois bar in 1869 became a national story.

Others included Ada Kepley, the state's first law school graduate in 1870; Alta Hulett, the first licensed attorney in 1873; Florence Kelley, the first woman factory inspector in the 1890s; and Catherine Waugh McCulloch, the first woman justice of the peace in 1907.

The Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission co-hosts the event with the law school.
