Ill. Teen Dies of Infection After Root Canal
BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (AP) -- Cook County authorities say a 17-year-old boy from the Chicago suburb of Blue Island died of an infection that developed after he underwent root canal surgery.

The medical examiner's office says Christopher Schutzius developed sepsis, a toxic infection. He died Wednesday at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, more than a week after undergoing the dental procedure.

The teen's family says he went to a dental office on Feb. 1 to have a filling replaced, but wound up having root canal surgery instead. They say he began feeling sick on Saturday but they thought it might be the flu.

Schutzius was a senior at Eisenhower High School and was to graduate in May.
