Abingdon After-Prom Resolved for Now
An after-prom will be held for the first time at Abingdon High School, but to hear parents tell it, with little to no thanks to the school district.

The Abingdon School Board this week decided they would not chance their building use policy, to waive a requirement that liability insurance be presented, or contribute money to the purchase of such a policy.

Parents like Emily Harroun left the meeting in disappointment. Harroun tells WGIL the district's help isn't much needed anymore.

"The anonymous donor that agreed to pay for the certificate of insurance, he did in fact send a check to Harmon's Insurance and we did get our certificate of insurance in. The superintendent's office now has a copy of that."

And Harroun says that was received as of Thursday afternoon.

But she says every time she tried to talk about the matter with superintendent Tami Roskamp, she got nowhere, and believes Roskamp would rather not have an after-prom at all.

Nevertheless, Harroun says it will go on as scheduled the night of prom in the Abingdon High School Gym, thanks to other money and prizes donated by the community.

She says she just wanted for a safe place for kids to be after prom, and contends there would be nothing else for attendees to do in town.
