GOP Senator from Peoria Won't Seek Re-election
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- A Republican state senator from Peoria says he won't seek re-election next year and doesn't expect to serve the rest of his term.

Dale Risinger tells the (Peoria) Journal Star it's time to, in his words, "let somebody else fight the battle."

Risinger is 67 years old and says he's in good health. He didn't set a date for stepping down.

Frustration with Democrats in control in Springfield and what he calls ''a continuous battle'' to control spending contributed to his decision.

Illinois Rep. David Leitch, a Peoria Republican, says he was surprised to hear Risinger had gone public with his decision. He says it's been an extremely frustrating period in the Legislature.

Risinger was first elected in 2002 after retiring from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 1999.
