Celebrating Lincoln's Birthday
(IRN)-The state's two new financial officers were the speakers at a Lincoln's Birthday event local Republicans put on in Springfield.

Dan Rutherford, the state treasurer, anticipates the governor's budget message Wednesday: "This tax increase that went into effect is not sustainable, even at that increase, if we don't fix the public pension system."

Judy Baar Topinka, the state comptroller, says she will wait and see what the governor has to say Wednesday before passing judgment. Like Rutherford, Topinka is finding her way around a new office, pointing out computers are 15 years old. She said replacing them a little at a time and finding another area in which to cut back is the way she will deal with that.

As for Rutherford's adjustment, he says the statewide depth of the demands of his new job is new to the former state lawmaker.
