Hotline Available for Parents with Trouble-Maker Kids
(IRN)-Being a parent is a very difficult job, regardless of how well the kids behave. A state lawmaker is proposing a "parent helpline" to call for advice or referrals when children are out of control.

"You don't want to have to call the police and give the child a police record" in all cases, says State Rep. LaShawn Ford. "If you could just provide some type of connections for the parent before the child is turned over to the criminal system, I believe we could save the state lots of money."

Ford says an "out-of-control" child is one who runs away, breaks curfew, or gets involved with drugs or gangs.

Ford says he sponsored the bill after hearing the pleas of helpless parents in the community, who tell him, "The only help I get is when my child becomes a criminal."
