Quinn to Give Budget Proposal Wednesday
(IRN)-Governor Pat Quinn is promising state budget cuts. Will they be enough?

The governor will unveil a budget proposal Wednesday. Word is out that he’ll specify $3 billion in cuts, many of which are nicks and scratches from existing programs. Quinn says he knows there will be criticism, even of that.

"They’re talking about a governor who has cut more out of the budget than any governor in Illinois history, that's what I’ve done," he said in a gathering with reporters. "Now there's always folks in the peanut gallery there that have unspecified reductions that they’re talking about. If they have ideas, we're happy to hear them, but they can't hide over in the corner. They've got to come out in the bright sunlight and tell us their thoughts."

The income tax increase enacted last month comes with spending caps. Quinn says there will be sacrifices all around in an effort to make the budget fair.

As for the number of state employees, Quinn indicated that it might fluctuate a little up or down in each agency depending on needs, but it’s unlikely that there will be a significant change overall.
