Exonerated IL Death Row Inmates Seek Repeal
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Men who were wrongfully sent to death row are urging Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn to repeal the death penalty because they say it's "the only reform that will actually work."

Randy Steidl says abolishing the death penalty would prevent fatal mistakes.

Steidl spent 12 years awaiting execution before being proven innocent of murder.

The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty says 20 death row inmates were eventually exonerated.

Delbert Tibbs is another of the exonerated men who spoke at a news conference Monday. He says it's wrong for the state to "deal in revenge" through executions.

Quinn is deciding whether to sign or veto legislation that would end the death penalty in Illinois.
