Prosecutors Respond to Blago Motion
CHICAGO (AP) -- The government has filed a sharply worded response to a pretrial motion from impeached Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich concerning secret FBI recordings.

In a motion filed Monday afternoon, prosecutors accuse the defense of rehashing spurious arguments with the possible aim of wanting to influence potential jurors.

That response came just hours after a Blagojevich motion asking a judge to admit 100 secret FBI recordings. The defense says the tapes would show Blagojevich tried to cut a legal political deal to name Illinois' attorney general to President Barack Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat.

Blagojevich is being retried in April on 23 charges, including allegations he sought to sell or trade an appointment to Obama's seat. At his first trial, jurors deadlocked on all but one count of lying to the FBI.
