Monken Moves to I-EMA
(IRN)-People who wanted "one of their own" to lead the Illinois State Police are getting their way.

Governor Pat Quinn announced that Jonathon Monken, who had been acting director of the state police, will now be director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

The move avoids a potential showdown this week in which Monken's appointment, which was never taken up by the Senate, was due to be discussed at a committee hearing. Monken was 29 and a decorated Army veteran, but had no police experience , when Quinn picked him to run the State Police.

The state police deputy director of administration, Patrick Keen, has been named interim director. The news release from Quinn’s office mentions Keen has more than 25 years of experience with the state police.

Monken, whose appointment to IEMA must be confirmed by the Senate, will be taking a pay cut. The governor's office says the State Police director pay is $132,566, and the IEMA director pay is $128,920.
