Lawmakers Ready to Hear Quinn's Budget Proposal
(IRN)-In Springfield, Republicans and Democrats alike are awaiting the governor's budget message Wednesday, and are wondering about his willingness to cut salaries and services.

Governor Pat Quinn will deliver his budget speech at noon Wednesday to a joint session of the General Assembly. State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) is frustrated in the wake of January’s end-of-session vote to raise the income tax: "It was the top priority: (Democrats said) 'We’re going to come in, we're going to get back in session, and we're going to come through with some cuts, some deep and serious cuts.' Well, we've been here now; there's absolutely no proposals whatsoever to make cuts, and just the opposite. Now the proposal is to borrow even more money."

Even Democrats wonder what to expect. State Senatoar John Sullivan (D-Rushville) chairs an appropriations committee: "I think that there's certainly been frustration out there as to where the specifics on where the cuts are going to be coming from."
