Another New Calendar Proposed for District 205
The Galesburg School District had a four week winter break this year as a means to save money, but that break likely won't be so long next year.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Joel Estes told the school board last night that a committee is looking at a similar-but-different calendar for the next school year following surveys of parents, staff, and students.

Estes says the calendar template being worked off of assumes school will start again in Mid-August, same as this school year, but assumes winter break will be shorter.

"We could either go with a very short winter break of a week and three days for students and come back on the third, or two weeks and two days and come back on the ninth."

that's in January. Estes says either say, the semester would end with the start of winter break. Surveys indicated the semester ending then was a good idea, while the four week break was a bad idea for a number of reasons.

The District-205 board will likely get a more formal calendar to vote on next month.
