Illinois' Reagan Country Celebrates Centennial
DIXON, Ill. (AP) -- The northern and central Illinois towns where Ronald Reagan spent his early years are preparing to mark the 100th anniversary of the late president's birth.

Among the festivities leading up to Sunday's centennial is a dinner Friday night outside Tampico featuring former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Reagan was born in Tampico. But the centennial event is also being recognized in the towns where he grew up, including Dixon and Monmouth, and in Eureka where he went to college.

Dixon and Tampico sit about 35 miles apart. Residents have long held friendly disagreements over which town hold the strongest claim to Reagan and therefore should be considered Illinois' true capital of Reagan country.
