Utilities Continue to Restore Power After Blizzard
CHICAGO (AP) -- Utility crews braving sub-freezing cold are making progress restoring power to thousands of Illinois homes and businesses left in the dark by the blizzard that socked parts of the state.

St. Louis based Ameren says it still is trying to turn power back on to 6,700 of its Illinois customers, many of them on the east-central side of the state. At the peak of the outages, Ameren says 41,000 of its customers were affected.

As of this morning's rush hour, ComEd says that it has restored electricity to 97 percent of the 190,000 customers affected by the storm that pounded the Chicago area.

ComEd has said it expected to restore power to those remaining affected customers by mid-day Thursday. Ameren says most of its outages will be remedied by Thursday night.
