Local Senator Retires
State Senator Dale Risinger has officially submitted his resignation to the General Assembly.

The Peoria Republican tells WGIL he is done fighting what seems to a losing battle.

"This term I'm in, that decision was made to run two years earlier, and at that time, I had a lot of reason to believe that the Illinois voters would change some things in Illinois in the General Assembly. Because as you know, we have had alot of problems with our budget and over spending the revenues coming in, and so forth, so I thought that would take place, but it didn't. There hasn't been much change in the General Assembly; we don't have any stoppers or one party rule."

Risinger will retire February 28th after serving the 37th district since 2002.

He says he plans to travel and spend more time with family.

A few names have surfaced already who might be interested in serving out Risinger's unexpired term, those include Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, Attorney Darin LaHood, and local state Representative Don Moffitt.
