More Charging Options for Electric Car Owners
(IRN)-A public-private partnership will increase the number of charging stations for electric vehicles.

While the first steps are being taken in the Chicago area, Governor Pat Quinn says charging stations for electric vehicles will eventually pop up in other parts of the state.

With $1 million of state money and another $1 million in federal funds, 280 charging stations will be installed at Midway and O’Hare airports, parking garages, shopping centers and oases along Illinois tollways. The project is expected to be complete by the beginning of 2012.

Quinn says he will be talking with 350 Green LLC, the company installing the chargers, about future charging stations across the state.

As for cost, 350 Green says they are still talking with utilities about the best way to set rates.
