Historical Society Makes Important Donation
The Galesburg Historical Society is trying to make sure students in Galesburg's schools can learn more about the first Illinois resident to become president.

The society recently donated copies of a book called "An Illustrated Life and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln," and society member Norma Steigel says every school in Galesburg now has a copy of the book, as does the Galesburg Public Library.

Steigel tells WGIL some special illustrations in the book make it important for schools and the library to have.

"It contains some facsimiles of manuscripts and speeches and some of them in Lincoln's own handwriting."

Steigel tells WGIL she recently talked about the book with students at Silas Willard Elementary School.

"They are just thrilled to have a chance to see this book and we've been well received by the principals who have been eager to connect with the historical society and we look forward to working with the schools even more in the future."

"An Illustrated Life and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln" is written by historian and former Lincoln Presidential Library Director Thomas Schwartz, and retails for around $17 on Amazon-dot-com.
