Ameren Power Update
(IRN)-Utility crews braving sub-freezing cold are making progress in restoring power to thousands of Illinois homes and businesses left in the dark by the blizzard that socked parts of the state.

Leigh Morris, spokesman Ameren Illinois says the utility is still is trying to turn power back on to 850 to 900 of its Illinois customers, the bulk of them in Edgar County near Paris.

Ameren said the outages tied to the storm had affected about 41,000 of its customers. Morris says there may be other planned, short-term outages as crews work to restore power. If Ameren customers are still without power by the end of the day, they should call 800 755-5000. Morris says customers should also call if they notice their neighbor's power restored but they are still in the dark.

At mid-day Thursday, ComEd says it has restored electricity to 97 percent of the 190,000 customers affected by the storm that pounded the Chicago area.

ComEd expected to restore power to those remaining affected customers Thursday. Ameren said most of its outages will be remedied by tonight Thursday.
